We're back again with another installment of Open Tab - a series of stories in which we ask our lovely Arc members to share juicy details about their latest projects and take us to their favorite places online.

Today, we are joined by a Dallas-based designer and art director Temi Coker. Temi was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria which inspired the vibrant colors that jump out in his work. He started off as a photographer before getting into design, and lately he's been experimenting with posters and turning his designs into physical items, like basketballs and jackets. From Adobe to Apple, Temi has seemingly worked with every brand that inspires creativity under the sun, and in 2021 he was one of the seven artists from across the world who got to design a statuette for the 93rd Academy Awards.

The classy guy that he is, Temi took more of a GQ approach to Open Tab and shared ten things - from hardware and stationary to apps and links, that he hopes will be a source of inspiration and guidance to everyone in their creative journey:

  1. Starting us off with a tough but fair reminder - you might need a budget. And YNAB is Temi's go-to budgeting tool that helps him track his own finances.

  2. ARENA is a great place to find inspiration. Its simplicity and community bring Temi back to Tumblr days.

  3. Macbook Pro has been Temi's laptop of choice ever since he started his creative journey back in 2011, and he isn't switching to anything else but a newer Macbook Pro anytime soon.

  4. But sometimes, it's best to get rid of all tech and put your ideas down in a regular paper sketchbook. Temi uses Field Notes

  5. If you get an email from Temi, it might be signed off with "sent via Superhuman." The app's shortcuts and clean UI have been a total game changer for his productivity.

  6. Milanote is a tool that lets creatives organize ideas and projects into visual boards. Here is how Temi used it for the recent launch of his basketball.

  7. Little Arc (Temi, you didn't have to!) will keep your browser free from random tabs and keep your space clutter-free, so your creativity can flow.

  8. Arc Easels is another Arc feature that's become part of Temi's day-to-day. But just so you know, it's not all serious work stuff, it's also how he saves his fire fit finds for when the checks clear.

  9. Having started in photography, Temi now merges photo and design in his posters. The cameras he is using right now are Sony A7RIII and Sony A1, and Olympus MJU II is his everyday film buddy.

  10. Substack is a great way for creatives to own their own audiences without relying too much on social media. Temi himself writes Creative Block - a weekly newsletter about his life, creativity, design and music.
